  • INTRODUCTION OF HIV/AIDS AWARENESS PROGRAMME FOR HMV DRIVERS

Appreciating the need for curtailing the rapidly spreading evil of HIV/AIDS among the highway truck drivers, the management of the AAUI decided to set-up an AIDS awareness programme in Association with SHRC, ILO and Delhi State Aids Control Society. The programme was launched on Feb., 05. The AAUI receives every month about 1200 drivers for two day refresher course for fine tuning their driving skills which provides a unique opportunity for orientation on HIV/AIDS - being the world's biggest killer. Since the launch of the project as many as 8967 drivers have attended the orientation programme in batches of 70 to 80 drivers in each course. Normally, it is very difficult to collect such big number of drivers on regular basis for the purpose. The AAUI has also submitted a project NACO/ Delhi State AIDS control Society for setting-up a regular HIV/AIDS awareness Centre at the premises of the AAUI. The project is awaiting final clearance.

  • ATTN : AAUI MEMBERS

In order to adopt an integrated approach and focused attention to multitude problems confronting traffic, transportation in the city, Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Plg. & Engg.) Centre (UTTIPEC) has been set up by Hon'ble Lt. Governor of Delhi. Rising to the occasion, your President submitted a proposal in the meeting chaired by the Lt. Governor of Delhi on October 10, 2008. The thought behind the proposal is to render effective contribution and assistance to the Center to address burning issues related with traffic management, road infrastructure, road signage & road markings etc. The proposal was discussed, appreciated & approved in the meeting. Accordingly, it is now proposed to nominate AAUI Hony. Roaming Ambassadors from amongst dedicated members seeking their valuable contribution in associating with this task on voluntary basis. The members so nominated will not be required to find extra time to undertake an exercise to identify bad roads, missing road markings and another snags that threaten the life of road users. The members during their routine commute will watch and make brief note/rough sketch of the troubled spots and roads noticed by them when driving or commuting by any other means. It is, however, important that the members nominated by the AAUI are duly informed as to the action on their feed-back. Here to before, nobody knew which particular authority to approach for redressal of their problems. The proposal evolved by the AAUI will now ensure that action taken report on their feed-back is consistently made available to the members. To achieve this objective and assist the members in making a brief note of the spots and traffic hurdles, it is proposed to bring out a special diary for the AAUI Hony. Roaming Ambassadors. More modalities are being worked out with a view to energies this unique proposal to take off as expeditiously as possible. Those members who are interested to associate with this noble task are requested to send their consent to AAUI President's Secretariat on telephone Nos. 26852033, 41688719 or via following e-mail aaprsect@airtelmail.in, aaprsect@vsnl.com.
