The
use of Simulators as a device to familiarise and impart basic
training for operating complicated machinery, flying aeroplanes
and to study operations involving men and machines has been
in use for a number of decades now. However, the use of Electronic
Simulators for imparting basic training and evaluating automobiles
drivers is a recent concept brought to India by the AAUI. Two
types of Electronic Simulators Systems are used :-
a) Car Simulator for giving basic training for LMV driving.
b) Truck Simulator to evaluate trained HMV drivers.
The Systems
are computerized and have audio-visual facilities to recreate
various scenes encountered by a driver while driving his vehicle.
A variety of road conditions are simulated to give practice
and develop methods for safe driving.
Some of the major advantages in using Simulator are :-
1. Training
can be given in all weather conditions to more than one person
at a time.
2. As against learning driving on the road, fear of
accidents is eliminated in early stages, giving psychological
advantages to the learner.
3. Fossil Fuel
consumption is eliminated, cutting down the pollution and
resulting in economy in cost.
4. It is possible to introduce different light conditions
like fog and night along with the different grade of slopes
to teach hill driving.
5. Coordination
of various controls by the learner is smoother and adds to
the confidence of the learner while going for practical driving
on the road.
