The Association is well patronised by high officials of the industry alike. Late Rajindra Prasad, the first President of India honored the Association by accepting to become its first Patron-in-Chief on September 1950.

Thereafter the successive Presidents of India have been bestowing this honor on the AAUI. Besides this, the Lt-Governors of Delhi and the Chiefs of the Three Services have been the patrons of the Association as a matter of tradition. The Association was founded on 20th September, 1950.

AAUI is rendering useful service to the public and the Transport Department, Police and Customs. Its performance can be well judged from the fact that the Association had collected and deposited with the Transport Authority a sum of Rs.80 lakh (approx.) on account of one time road tax, and fees introduced by the City Government during 1986-87. It rendered a great help to the motorists who could pay the tax almost at their door-step.

AAUI is making all out efforts to enlarge its membership so as to bring a large percentage of motorists into its fold and also to obtain greater facilities for them. The AAUI generally has a say in the matters related with Motor Driving, Road Safety, Traffic Discipline and to help domestic and foreign tourists. Efforts are being made to train a large number of motorists in First Aid and in Traffic Warden duties so as to make them more helpful in rendering service to the public and to augment the resources of the Government. Leading multinational companies, senior civil servants and thousands of motorists are the members of AAUI.

The AAUI makes a significant contribution to the growth of land related foreign tourism. The custom authorities at more than 130 stations and checkposts allow duty-free passage to the vehicles brought by foreign tourist into India on the strength of carnet-de-passage (CPD) to which the Federation of Indian Automobile Associations (FIAA) with AAUI and other regional associations is the counter-guarantor.

ATTN : AAUI MEMBERS

In order to adopt an integrated approach and focused attention to multitude problems confronting traffic, transportation in the city, Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Plg. & Engg.) Centre (UTTIPEC) has been set up by Hon'ble Lt. Governor of Delhi. Arising to the occasion, your President submitted a proposal in the meeting chaired by the Lt. Governor of Delhi on October 10, 2008. The thought behind the proposal is to render effective contribution and assistance to the Center to address burning issues related with traffic management, road infrastructure, road signage & road markings etc. The proposal was discussed, appreciated & approved in the meeting. Accordingly, it is now proposed to nominate AAUI Hony. Roaming Ambassadors from amongst dedicated members seeking their valuable contribution in associating with this task on voluntary basis. The members so nominated will not be required to find extra time to undertake an exercise to identify bad roads, missing road markings and another snags that threaten the life of road users. The members during their routine commute will watch and make brief note/rough sketch of the troubled spots and roads noticed by them when driving or commuting by any other means. It is, however, important that the members nominated by the AAUI are duly informed as to the action on their feed-back. Here to before, nobody knew which particular authority to approach for redressal of their problems. The proposal evolved by the AAUI will now ensure that action taken report on their feed-back is consistently made available to the members. To achieve this objective and assist the members in making a brief note of the spots and traffic hurdles, it is proposed to bring out a special diary for the AAUI Hony. Roaming Ambassadors. More modalities are being worked out with a view to energies this unique proposal to take off as expeditiously as possible. Those members who are interested to associate with this noble task are requested to send their consent to President's Secretariat on telephone Nos. 26852033, 41688719 or via e-mail aaprsect@airtelmail.in, aaprsect@vsnl.com.
